You're right. This is an emergency and has been for some time. Unfortunately, the 'smart shopping' solutions you give are not even close to being enough. We need massive changes, and the only hope I can see is a social commitment to embracing indigenous ways of living. I'm writing about it now, but check out Robin Kimmerer's book Braiding Sweetgrass for ideas. We need an economy based on gift, not on material accumulation. We need people to put Mother Earth first in everything we do. No more wars, no more industrial agriculture, no more fossil fuel mining and drilling. Protect the water.
