I see a real problem with the word ‘is.’ When you say a transwoman ‘is’ a woman, what does that mean? What does it mean to be a woman or to be a man? Isn’t gender more variable than that? But as a male-identified man, I can certainly sympathize with women who do not want to compete against biologically male-born people in sports, or to sleep in shelters or dorms with them. Because for that matter, what ‘Is” a transwoman? Is anyone who claims that status really trans? I certainly see a number of stories of men calling themselves transwomen and doing stereotypically toxic male things including rape and assault. How do you know?
